This baby 5 days after birth (caesarean section) developed breathing problem.2D ECHO done and the baby was diagnosed to have a cardiac problem for which the baby was given medication.Few days later she again developed breathing problem and consulted a local pediatrician at Rajahmundry for which he prescribed medication and advised surgery. 2 months later baby again developed difficulty in breathing and vomitings for which she got admitted at GGH KAKINADA and was on ventilator for 10 days and then got discharged.
Parents observed that the baby is not taking feeds properly and also not growing.Baby was taken to Hyderabad and they advised to undergo surgery later and treated conservatively with medications.Recently the baby again developed similar complaints and got admitted in the department of paediatrics at GSL MEDICAL COLLEGE.The Pediatricain treated the child for heart failure and referred the baby to Department of CARDIOTHORACIC AND VASCULAR SURGERY,GSL MEDICAL COLLEGE
The child is examined and diagnosed to have a large PDA(patent ductus arteriosus) which is a abnormal connection between aorta and pulmonary artery.Due to this large portion of blood is going to lungs leading to difficulty in breathing and also volume overload on heart leading to heart failure.The baby was admitted and taken up for surgery by the chief cardio thoracic surgeon and the PDA WAS LIGATED.Now the baby is recovering well and taking feeds with out any difficulty.
