ARE ALL HYPERTENSION SAME? Stenting to cure!

A 20 Year young lady Priyanka, mother of 1 year baby having headache,1 episode of syncope with BP 240/120mm Hg on five drugs was referred to GSL Cardiology as no hospital wants to evaluate this challenging case or to treat under Aarogyasri due to high financial cost of treatment&low Aarogyashri package.

This case was admitted in cardiology and with special permission of philanthropist Managing director Dr. Ganni Bhaskar Rao & Director of cardiovascular sciences Dr.P.Keshava swamy to go beyond the aarogysri package to achieve the best result for this young patient,she was extensively evaluated from head to toe with latest imaging gazzets CT Angiography followed by MR Angiography and cardiac MRI to get the finer details of disease extent and finally diagnosed as Takayasu Arteritis involving Aorta and upper limb vessel.

Over the course of next 10 days B.P dropped to 140/80 without anti hypertensives .

Patient is having no complaints & happily discharged from hospital and this case gives the hope of curative treatment for special case of hypertension.Hence any young patient with no family history of hypertension or those not responding to 3 antihypertensive need furthur evaluation for secondary cause,as it may be curable sometime.

The special cases comprises of secondary hypertension which account 5-10% of all hypertension.This group involves young patients with hypertension without risk factors ,Takayasu disease,coarcation,Tumor related hypertension , hormone deficiency or excess realated aand finally hypertension not responding to 3 anti hypertensive medicine.These subset of patients need evaluation& intervention procedure that may be part of either control therapy or sometime having curative role if done in early stage of hypertension.
